Our Strategic Planning

As part of the School Improvement Plan, CCSS conducts an Annual Review each year, which gives staff the opportunity to review the year and report student progress.  The following are the School Improvement Projects for SY16-17:

Project 1 – Core Communication Project

GOAL: Given a school-wide Core Communication program grounded in daily structured lessons, students with significant cognitive disabilities will increase student performance on the Core Communication Identification and Application Assessment.

The purpose of the Core Communication Project is to create a tool for improving student communication skills.  By developing a school-wide strategic list of high frequency core vocabulary words that can be incorporated into daily lessons and activities. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, repetitive activities that will support language development for students who are non-verbal or have limited communication skills.

Project 2 – Writing Project

GOAL: Given a school-wide Writing program grounded in daily structured lessons, students with significant cognitive disabilities will increase student performance on the Developmental Writing Scale Assessment and the Word/Letter Assessment.

The purpose of the Writing Project is to create a tool for improving student communication skills.  By developing a school-wide strategic writing project, students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, repetitive activities that will support language development for students who are non-verbal or have limited communication skills.

Project 3 – Multiple Pathways Project

GOAL: Given a specific Life Skills and Vocational Curriculum, students will increase performance on Life Skills Assessment by twenty points higher than individual baseline assessments.

The purpose of the Multiple Pathways Project is to provide post-graduation awareness and opportunities for all students.  By providing WCPS students identified as having significant cognitive disabilities standards based instruction in social skill training, functional life skills, decision making and self advocacy, and pre-employment training, WCPS learning community will be better equipped to fulfill the learning criteria that will successfully prepares individual students for college, career, and/or community.

Project 4 – PBIS Project

GOAL: Given a system of Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports, CCSS students will maintain a 5 positive to 1 negative student interaction as determined by daily data.

The purpose of the PBIS project is to create an environment that positively rewards good student behaviors, therefore decreasing negative behaviors.  By providing positive praise and positive outlets for behavioral and sensory needs, negative behaviors will decrease.

Project 5 – Health and Wellness Project

GOAL: Given an incentive program, CCSS students and staff will improve health by increasing participation in physical activity and healthy choices.

The purpose of the Health and Wellness Project is to create a working environment that values the health and wellness of all staff members and to promote a positive means to facilitate the daily stress that can be associated with employment in a specialized setting for students with significant cognitive disabilities. By creating opportunities for all staff to be intrinsically rewarded by improved health, and possibly externally rewarded for embracing a healthy life style.
